About the Artist
The artist I met was Kristi Jensen who is currently a student at California State University Long Beach. Kristi’s plans are to graduate in the fall and is a undergraduate student who is working on her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in metal and jewelry. Kristi has been working with metal for about two years. As a child, her inspiration to start working with metal was her grandfather because she would always see him take apart TVs and put them back together. Kristi enjoys working with metal and cloth and gets satisfaction when she learns new techniques. Kristi enjoys other things as well, such as cooking, reading books, and even watching her favorite television show The Walking Dead.
In Jensen’s work, used fire as a tool to bend the copper easily. The tools that she uses to create her art work is also a hammer. In one of Jensen’s artworks, she formed a steel onion. The onion in Jensen’s artwork, the onion has a curved shaped and is very smooth from the inside and out. An artwork that Jensen has much pride in, is the necklace made out of silver. Jensen made this beautiful looking necklace and used the colors jade, dark blue, and dark purple. The colors on the necklace blend in together perfectly.
Growing up, Jensen’s grandfather would take apart televisions and fix them. As a child, this fascinated her and it influenced her in getting into art. Jensen enjoys trying new techniques and materials when it comes to her artwork. This helps her become a better artist and she feels satisfied when she works with new ways in her artwork. Through the art work on social media, it has led an inspiration to Jensen. Jensen enjoys working with metal and always completes her artwork on time.
Synthesis / My Experience
It fascinated me how Jensen was able to create an onion out of steel. This piece of work was my favorite because out of her artwork, she was able to create a piece of food. This is what inspired me to work with cuisine for my art experience and create something. I can relate to how Jensen get’s her ideas from social media because things on their influence me with different ideas. Overall, Jensen’s artwork was very detailed and you can tell that she put much time and effort into it.
